A Christmas message from Beth, Miss Galaxy-UK 2010![]() ![]() To begin with a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from me! Well what a year! For those of you who are competing in 2011, I hope you are all super excited for February and all of your preparations are going well. It feels like only yesterday that I was booking my hotel room - to make sure I could get a look at the teen competition the night before I was due to compete!! I can’t explain the feeling I got watching the girls knowing that, that would be me strutting my stuff the following evening. When it came to the actual evening, we'd been rehearsing all day long and so the initial nerves of meeting all the other girls had gone away and you could see real friendships developing amongst everyone. Everyone was so supportive of each other! But when it came to the crunch and it was time to announce the placements you could have cut the atmosphere with a knife, so intense, everyone praying it was going to be their name. I still remember the feeling, the almost outer body experience feeling, when it wasn't my name that was called as first runner up...that meant I had won! As you've probably seen from the photos on the website I was in total shock, there were SO many beautiful girls!! I still talk to Sara, Miss Teen Galaxy-UK, about wanting so bad to go back to that weekend and reliving it all over again! It was so unexpected. Nothing could have prepared me for the journey I was about to go on, all of the fabulous appearances and the wonderful weekend we spent with Melissa, our fab, fab, fab pageant coach. Everything went above and beyond my expectations. We met some absolutely beautiful children at the Starlight Wishing Party who were so brave; I met courageous soldiers and amazing people making a difference to the less fortunate, just because they could!!! The highlight of the year, so far however, has to have been our trip to America. All the preparations made it feel as though it was never going to come and my excitement, every day as it got closer, I am sure, irritated my poor family. But I was so fortunate that they joined me on the trip, Miss Galaxy-UK went to America to compete for the International crown with the whole Greenham clan in tow!! I was so grateful that they were all there! Much as they deny it, I actually think my Dad and brother enjoy nit-picking the potential competition. America was the most surreal experience, you never really believe that pageants happen the way they are portrayed in films, but they really are. Everyone is so passionate and dedicated, and the smiles really are that twinkly and the atmosphere really is that full of fantastic diva-isms!! My most memorable day of the lead up to the competition has to be the day we met Dave, our choreographer. Dancing is definitely my biggest passion, after pageants, and the day we spent putting together the opening number was unforgettable!!! That was the day I realised some of these girls were friends for life!! On the night the announcements were made, I remember saying to my mum as we left the hotel that 'No matter what the outcome, I had had the very best time and nothing, not even coming last, could spoil it for me because I was one of the luckiest girls in the world to have been able to compete in an international pageant. Something some girls can only dream of!' Coming top 5 was just the icing on the cake. I remember having that same feeling as at the UK finals, where it was almost as though your legs were no longer attached - and walking to the front of the stage to meet the other 4 girls required so much concentration so as not fall in one of the most exciting and memorable moments of your whole life!! I still love telling people all about it now, its one of those stories for the grandkids and their grandkids and so on. AMAZING! And this is going to happen for SIX beauties in just a couple of months, beginning the same journey! Nothing can prepare you for what’s to come and I am super excited for you all. But, I won't lie, I am also very jealous that it isn't me getting to do this all over again!! It’s not very long at all now, 2 months i think, until I'll get to meet all of the contestants and I can imagine the nerves are beginning to set in! My advice to all of the girls would be to take full advantage of the Christmas Holidays, eat too much and have far too much fun because I am sure the gym will become your best friend as soon New Year is done...Its my New Years resolution to make it mine anyway!!! For those of you who I haven’t met or spoken to yet, I look forward to Feb and for those who I have had the pleasure of meeting and speaking to, keep up the good work! Hope Santa brings everyone what they ask for and 2011 is your year!
