Merry Christmas from our Miss Galaxy Wales, Kia Owens!

Our beautiful Miss Galaxy Wales, Kia Owens, would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

‘Hey Galaxy Girls.. Wow I cannot believe December is here already, where do I begin?! This time Last year I was in the exact same position you were all in, feeling every emotion under the sun but most of all excitement, every night I went to sleep dreaming about Galaxy, the finals, what appearances I was attending next, even debating changing my outfits for the finals! So please know I understand how you’re feeling, we all do and we are all here to show you that it is worth it all when you are stood on that Galaxy stage smiling with your friends you’ve made and your family supporting you, and believe me the girls you have made friends with will be supporting you, I have looked back at my crowning photos to see girls I have spent the rehearsals with jumping with there hands in the air genuinely happy for me. That evening I was very proud to have won the title of Miss Galaxy Wales, this was my second time competing in a pageant and my first time competing in the Galaxy competition. For those of you who have never competed before you are in the best hands, Holly and her team run an Amazing pageant and you are going to make friends for life, the past year my Galaxy sister queens have become more like a family to me, we are all very crazy and poor Holly had to put up with us for a week in Orlando!!

During the run up to the Galaxy finals I concentrated a lot on charity work and appearances, I held a dancethon with a local dance school INFERNO raising money for The Christie charity, this was so much fun and it also created a chance for my community to get together and help those in need. I tried to attend as many events as I could to support my local community of Denbighshire. I can honestly tell you I am happiest when helping others, I hope that I can go on in life to help changing lives. The night I was crowned was so surreal, I was crowned with my fellow queens Leah, Emma and Anna, a moment I will never forget..ok I may forget the few seconds after the crowning but that was due to pure shock! Emma and I were room mates in Orlando I’m not sure how she put up with me but wow we made some amazing memories.

During my reign I also held another dancethon, this time raising money for the Australian Wildlife Zoo and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. I was lucky enough to be able to travel to Las Vegas alongside work and meet up with a fellow Galaxy girl Courtney Summerfrost, Miss California Galaxy, who is also an amazing photographer, we had a photo shoot in the desert of Nevada, something I never thought I would do. When you hear us say we have made friends from all over the world during the past year this is just one example! I know the run up to Christmas is so exciting for everyone, being able to spend time with our loved ones but at the same time I know some of you will be getting nervous as the finals approach. This is normal to be nervous but please don’t panic, enjoy every moment of the run up to the Galaxy final and take lots of photos (not while you’re on stage in rehearsals though) haha!

Some of you may know we have been busy running The Galaxy Appeal, this is an appeal we have launched to make shoe boxes for the homeless this Christmas. Sometimes we forget about the less fortunate and at this time of year we need to look out for everyone. Thank you to all of you who have donated items or shoe boxes, keep an eye out for the date we will be distributing as anyone is welcome to meet us and come along. This past year has been the best year of my life, I have made memories I will treasure forever with girls I will never forget. Walking on the Galaxy international stage representing my country was one of the most amazing moments of my life I have never felt so proud. I can’t believe I will be handing over the title of Miss Galaxy Wales in just a few months time, to this day I am so thankful for this opportunity and to represent my country. I have witnessed just how hard you have all worked in the run up to the finals. To the lucky lady who I hand over to grab every opportunity with both hands and enjoy every moment, you will have the most amazing time in Orlando, Maria and her team work so hard to make sure everything is perfect I can’t thank them enough for all they did for us in Orlando. Holly, Debbie and the Pageant Girl team, thank you for everything you do for us and for giving me this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Galaxy girls… ITS CHRISTMAS TIME!!! Take this time to celebrate with loved ones, share love and happiness between you all. These are the moments that mean the most. If you do see anybody less fortunate than you during this period do give them a smile, it may be the only one they receive today. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy new year. I look forward to meeting you all in March. Remember ladies, no matter what your circumstances, if you work hard and put your mind to it you can and will achieve your dreams.’
