Miss Galaxy, Joanna Johnson, took part in another beach clean up with Cleveleys Beach Care!
‘I went down to my local beach to team up with the Cleveleys beach care group who organise regular beach cleans to help make a difference in the environment and community. I attend these beach cleans quite regularly and I would urge others to come along and volunteer too.
Cleveleys Beach Care is part of the LOVEmyBEACH organisation. The ‘LOVEmyBEACH’ campaign was created in 2013 with the aim of bringing communities across the North West together to keep local beaches and bathing waters clean. Everyday approximately 8 million pieces of plastic finds their way into our oceans and plastic consistently makes up of around 60-90% of all marine debris studied.
One thing that alarmed me the most from today’s beach clean was coming across a deceased gannet. The poor bird was trapped amongst multiple nets and ocean debris and although it wasn’t certain the cause of it’s death, it was evident that pollution played a part.
Next time you have a piece of rubbish in your hand, please think of our oceans and the wildlife we are blessed to have and either place the rubbish in a nearby litter bin or take it home with you. We need to put an end to ocean pollution and If everyone makes small changes, we can all have a big impact on the local coastal environment and in particular bathing water quality.’
What a fab appearance, great work Joanna!
